local, city, state, federal involved here. you have been at the press conferences all day. you are coming from the san bernardino sheriffs office. let's play a little sound from cindy bachman at one of the press conferences. here it is. >> we had reason to believe it was christopher dorner because he victims of the car theft said the suspect that stole their car looked like him and his actions after stealing the vehicle led us to believe even stronger that it was him. we have not confirmed that it is him. >> you have to remember, this is a very confusing situation. a lot of different law enforcement involved. this happened randomly. they hadn't been tailing this suspect. what happened essentially in short hand format is they got a report from people who had their pickup truck hijacked. the people who were driving the vehicle said they identified the man who did it as christopher dorner, the excop, the subject of this manhunt. that of course triggered the suspicion of wildlife and game officers who were there. they wound up getting in to a fire fight with this suspect. they

big bear proper, the city and ski resort, we were talking about where he stole this car. we are now on the opposite side of that mountain. basically, we took highway 38 around and i will show you, we came down from this way, down this road and we were basically stopped here. this is where they're stopping all mediaen and all traffic at this point because it is just about two and a half miles down the other direction, if we were to continue, two and a half miles down that way is where that cabin is where he is said to be barricaded, holed up, pinned down. if you can take a look around, you can see this is not a heavily populated area. this is the back country here in the san bernardino mountains and you know, the vast wilderness that we are talking about here is quite large. so you know, if there was by some odd chance for him to, you know, hide and run away somewhere, there is so much terrain, so many trees. this is what officers and search crews and s.w.a.t. teams have been dealing with for the last several days. they have been doing ground searches here in the snow, in

tell me about the mood out there in the city. your readership, and why this has been such a grabber, even as it developed in the beginning with this fellow with a grievance against the lapd. he claimed it was a racist situation. that hasn't been backed up by anyone that involved him going on this murder rampage of killing four people now allegedly. and perhaps going to kill more. tell me about the readership you've got whom. you talking to out there? people seem to be rapt in their attention. >> very much so. the lapd holds a pretty -- people are fascinated with the lapd to begin with. there is a sort of base level of interest that runs in the city for the lapd. it is a storied institution. it has a very infamous and famous past. so you start out from that, and you add on to a story like you outlined that really hollywood couldn't make up if they tried. it has all the elements of a movie that we probably will see some day in the theaters when screenwriters get ahold of it. but it has been a story that the city has gripped on to.
